City Councils Snarls at Audit

January 9th, 2008 Me

The Tehachapi City Council voted against an outside 3rd party Audit of the City Books. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the meeting this past Monday and I haven’t heard the audio yet… but from what I’ve heard is the Council members took the motion very personally. Now many are asking why? That’s a great question. The better question is what are you hiding Mayor Hand and Council Member Smith? What are you afraid will turn up?

I really don’t think the Council takes it personally, but every audit the city performs is from a “3rd Party”. There is nothing to hide because all of the books at the city are open to the public. I think people read misleading information on the blogs and are interpreting wrong!! I was at the meeting and there was overwhelming support of NOT doing the audit. It is not in the best interest of the public. The bloggers are a SMALL minority that keeps bringing up negative press. When it came to public time to discuss the matter. I noticed that Jim Richards was no where to be seen. That says it all. It is obvious that one of our Council members has continued to bring up issues that are only important to a few, we as a community are about to experience hard times and our duty as citizens is to band together and not to consistently make baseless accusations every two weeks. Find something positive and run with that…We are sick of it!!

Yes, I quite agree that both Hand and Smith might just be afraid at what would come to light from an “Investigative Audit.”

There are audits and then there are AUDITS! Smith stated that the City undergoes many audits during the course of a year but…to what depth are these “audits”? Many so-called audits are merely cursory with someone scanning though a bunch of pages. The proposed Investigate Audit was to be extremely thorough and far reaching. So, the “Mayor” and her minions got away with it again. I can only hope that the voting citizens of the City of Tehachapi will remember this when it comes to City Council member voting time in November!

I am so tired of the bikering. Just keep the parks and rec dept clear of the political issues. That dept will make Teh a great place.Sometimes I’m so sorry I moved here.

Michelle, it is obvious that you live in the dream world of Debbie Hand. The “annual audit” was just completed. Mr. Beckham asked of the auditor, “What do you base this audit on? Do you investigate the books or do you base your audit on what is given you?” The auditor answered, now wait for it…”We base our audit on what is given us by the staff.”

Jason Caudle made a timely exit resigning 3 days after receiving a fax from a company back east that owns land in Capital Hills and is accusing the city of “misplacing” monies to the tune of $500,000. Then at the last council meeting, with all attorneys present from both sides, the City Attorney, Mr. Schroeter, submits a resolution to change the rules in how the monies from the east coast company were applied to try and cover the city’s butt.

Mr. Beckham was the only council member present with enough integrity to abstain on this resolution because he didn’t have enough information to make a decision on this resolution. Your friend Hand, Grimes, Vernon and Smith all voted yes and “rubber stamped” everything like they always do because they had no idea what they were voting on.

Ms. Vance, you did a great job with the Wine Tasting, but if you please, in the future please take the time to think through why Mr. Beckham is constantly hounding these people and creating a fuss. Instead of listening to Hand and her hippie friends, why don’t you talk to some of the people in town. I have and they are NOT all bloggers and they ALL say that they want Hand, Grimes and Smith out and that City Hall is rife with corruption.

Personally I think it is time for a special Grand Jury investigation instead of the cursory annual review last done January 2007 and was based on the testimony of the current City Manager Jason Caudle.

C’mon, Jason Caudle is hired with NO experience to be a City Manager by his friend Rombouts and Jason’s mother-in-law was sitting on the city council at the time. If you had been around here for awhile you would know that Rombouts is one of the biggest crooks in town.

Get with it Michelle. Smell the roses, but wake up and smell the coffee.
