Anything and everything people around Tehachapi have to say about Tehachapi

Considering Trader Joe’s

October 29th, 2007 janasmama

Everywhere I go, I read about how many people want a Trader Joe’s in Tehachapi. Although I am very fond of this idea, I’m afraid to say that the chances of this happening are about slim to none because Tehachapi sits right in the middle of two Trader Joe’s that habituate in Palmdale and Bakersfield.

This is so sad because if you look at the Los Angeles region, there are tons of Trader Joe’s stores…people don’t have to drive an hour to get to one. But Tehachapi is growing and with all of us stocking up at Trader Joe’s on a monthly basis our population may exceed what the Trader Joe’s in Bakersfield can handle and then they will build one here. (the checker at TJ’s aksed if I was feeding a small army…I replied that I lived in Tehachapi. He commented that all Tehachapians wipe out their store…ha ha!)

Domino’s Pizza in Tehachapi

September 6th, 2007 janasmama

Who would have ever thought you could order pizza online and then have it delivered to your door within 30 minutes. Well, now you can and if you haven’t already you should. Here’s why: when you order online you have access to the best coupons. Tonight, we ordered an extra-large, hand tossed pizza with unlimited toppings from the Domino’s on Tucker Rd. for $9.99 plus tax. That’s right, the price even included the delivery fee. You can get the same pizza for $8.49 carry-out. What a deal!

After discovering these online coupons, I will never place another pizza order over the phone. There are lots of coupons to choose from and your kids can sit down with you while you select toppings. The other great thing, there was no wait on hold or difficulty relaying my order to someone.

Want to try it out? Go to Domino’s Pizza now, enter your address then click ‘get coupons’ above the ‘order summary’ box.

Let us know how your experience was. Great things deserve recognition!

Mothering Magazine: Natural Family Living…not just for mothers

September 5th, 2007 janasmama

I have subscribed to this magazine for 3 years and absolutely love it. It is the one parenting magazine that actually answers questions I have about parenting. If you have never read it before you should definitely give it a try if you want to be an informed parent. The Kern County Library in Tehachapi actually has it in their periodical section or you can get a subscription online. Watch the video below to see what this magazine is about.

Tehachapi News Bans Tehachapi Daily

September 5th, 2007 Me

After the Where’s Tehachapi DOT com website was relaunched as a 100% completely free to use site an article was written, submitted and rejected by the Tehachapi News Blog because it was stated that the post was in violation of the user policy (commercial advertising). Hmm… if we are a non-commercial website (remember we are free) how can it be of commercial nature. So a reply was made to Ms. Vicky Thrasher, General Manager of the Tehachapi News to ask why our article was considered commercial while Home Depot’s “free clinics” were not (Home Depot has an article on the blog site) but a reply was never received. Walmart: Are You Educated?

September 2nd, 2007 LucyPevensie

Most people think that when Wal-Mart comes to town there will be more job opportunties and a better place to shop. The truth is that Wal-Mart doesn’t pay living wages and if you think they do, talk to people who work there. They stay because they have to keep working to pay the bills and they believe it’s the only option for them. Thousands of people work at Wal-Mart and probably none of them will ever see a promotion or even a pay raise. A small portion of these employees are teenagers, most are mothers and fathers trying to support a family. Read more…

Response to Katatak’s “A Case of Murder”

September 2nd, 2007 LucyPevensie

I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on February 8, 2007. At that time, my 2 1/2 year old daughter had a cough. Just 2 days after the baby was born, I also got a cough but felt okay. On my baby’s 8th day of life he developed a fever of 100.5 and I took him to the Tehachapi Hospital Emergency Room at 10p.m. Read more…

Old News…But The Fire is Still Burning

August 21st, 2007 janasmama

The Home Depot construction may be old news by now but many are still frustrated with the result of the building plan. City planners told the Tehachapi News that this Home Depot was going to be the most beautiful Home Depot building ever built and it would have ‘victorian’ architecture. The Tehachapi News no longer has this article in their archives but trust me…it was written. Read more…

Eat Fresh, Buy Local

August 18th, 2007 janasmama

Over the past decade farmer’s markets have been gaining popularity with todays family’s. Farmer’s in the U.S. are following the practice of age old farmer’s in cities throughout the world and bringing their produce directly to shoppers in parks and parking lots. Sometimes there is live music to set the mood but probably all shoppers enjoy their visit to the farmer’s market. Farmer’s markets are one the best ways to get fresh produce in your area for about 4 months out of the year, even longer in some places. Read more…

Three Ring Circus

August 17th, 2007 janasmama

I was so relieved to see this post on the Tehachapi News blog about the backward building at the corner of Tehachapi Blvd. and Tucker (you know, where Que Pasa is)…I thought I might be the only one who was bothered by this. Then when I tried to get out of the blind drive-thru exit at Starbuck’s I held my breath hoping I wouldn’t get t-boned by cars exiting the parking lot at the same time. Finally someone put a mirror there which blocks Starbuck’s nice little “thanks” sign. The building that is going on in this city is hilarious.

Yeah, real funny when it’s money the city is wasting. Have you noticed the little green benches that have been carefully placed around town? Well, notice the placement of some of these benches…it’s not funny. Who’s leading this circus?
