Domino’s Pizza in Tehachapi

September 6th, 2007 janasmama

Who would have ever thought you could order pizza online and then have it delivered to your door within 30 minutes. Well, now you can and if you haven’t already you should. Here’s why: when you order online you have access to the best coupons. Tonight, we ordered an extra-large, hand tossed pizza with unlimited toppings from the Domino’s on Tucker Rd. for $9.99 plus tax. That’s right, the price even included the delivery fee. You can get the same pizza for $8.49 carry-out. What a deal!

After discovering these online coupons, I will never place another pizza order over the phone. There are lots of coupons to choose from and your kids can sit down with you while you select toppings. The other great thing, there was no wait on hold or difficulty relaying my order to someone.

Want to try it out? Go to Domino’s Pizza now, enter your address then click ‘get coupons’ above the ‘order summary’ box.

Let us know how your experience was. Great things deserve recognition!

Mothering Magazine: Natural Family Living…not just for mothers

September 5th, 2007 janasmama

I have subscribed to this magazine for 3 years and absolutely love it. It is the one parenting magazine that actually answers questions I have about parenting. If you have never read it before you should definitely give it a try if you want to be an informed parent. The Kern County Library in Tehachapi actually has it in their periodical section or you can get a subscription online. Watch the video below to see what this magazine is about.

Amtrak Train on the Tehachapi Loop

Quite the unusual site to see on the Tehachapi Loop….but I think it would be neat if the Amtrak always came through here and they built a stop in Tehachapi.

Were You Born Between 1930 & 1979?

September 5th, 2007 janasmama

To all the kids who survived the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60 ’s and 70’s…

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren’t over-weight because, we were always outside playing!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD’s, no surround-sound or CD’s, no cell phones, no personal computer’s, no Internet or chat rooms…….We had friends and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all!

If you are one of them. Congratulations!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it, you may want to send this to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:

“With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunder-storms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?”

Express Your Awareness for Breastfeeding: September 8, 2007

September 3rd, 2007 janasmama

Recently a woman in Kentucky was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her 7 month old baby. The lady explained that she didn’t have a blanket to do this but the management insisted she cover up in order to make a complaining guest feel more comfortable. It is okay to cover up while breastfeeding if that is what the mother prefers but nobody should have to cover up. Personally, my baby won’t nurse when covered up….though I wish sometimes he would. Old News…But The Fire is Still Burning

August 21st, 2007 janasmama

The Home Depot construction may be old news by now but many are still frustrated with the result of the building plan. City planners told the Tehachapi News that this Home Depot was going to be the most beautiful Home Depot building ever built and it would have ‘victorian’ architecture. The Tehachapi News no longer has this article in their archives but trust me…it was written. Read more…

Eat Fresh, Buy Local

Over the past decade farmer’s markets have been gaining popularity with todays family’s. Farmer’s in the U.S. are following the practice of age old farmer’s in cities throughout the world and bringing their produce directly to shoppers in parks and parking lots. Sometimes there is live music to set the mood but probably all shoppers enjoy their visit to the farmer’s market. Farmer’s markets are one the best ways to get fresh produce in your area for about 4 months out of the year, even longer in some places. Read more…
